Help is on the way (1)
While Covid-19 seems to be coming to an end and things appear to be getting better for many people, suddenly, we are now talking of high inflationary pressures, with possible recession being predicted in many countries. High interest rates, soaring cost of gasoline, while supply chain issues are pushing a lot of households into economic discomfort. There are armed conflicts in various parts of the world, including in Ukraine and Syria, and many believers are fighting personal wars, that are not of their making, but wars the enemy succeeded in dragging them into. It doesn’t matter how the war started, be assured that this week, help is on the way.
In 1 Sam 11, Nahash intimidated and besieged Jabesh Gilead (1 Sam 11: 1) and the men of Jabesh were so fearful that they begged him sign a treaty with them, that they will be subject to him. They surrendered even before the first arrow was fired. They capitulated, saying, we can’t fight you, we haven’t got an army, you are way too powerful for us.
Whichever battle you are facing, internal or external, spiritual or physical, at work or at home, once you have a revelation that the battle belongs to God and not you, you will be free of anxiety. God will fight this battle like he fought for Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah. (2 Chro 20)
Nahash agreed to enter into a treaty with them if they would let him gouge out the right eye of every male in Israel. The enemy was bent on humiliating the people of God. But God gave them the wisdom to make a counter proposal. They said give us 7 days to consult our people, if no one comes to rescue us, we’ll surrender to you. Nahash didn’t mind giving them 7 days, he was confident that they would never find help, that they would never be able to raise an army. But he wasn’t counting on God being by their side.
That was the mistake Nahash didn’t live to regret. People were weeping and waling but when word got to Saul, freshly anointed by Samuel, the Spirit of God came powerfully upon him, and he burned with anger.
Sure, the spirit of God can make us happy. Or dance, like David danced. It empowers us, it reminds us of all truth. But there are times when the Spirit ought to make us angry. Angry at how the devil is turning our cities into drug infested crime scenes, our women and even men to prostitutes; angry at the enemy sowing the spirit of fear in us, while we fold our arms and do nothing.
If you stand up to be counted as being on the Lord’s side, even though the enemy might have marked you for disgrace, as you read this, be assured that help is on the way. You will not be disgraced because the God of grace is on your side. They’ve written you off that you will not be successful, that you will never pass your board exam, that you will never be a good mother, that your finances will never add up. Stop listening to the lies of the devil. The story of the people of Jabesh Gilead ended in victory. Yours, will also end in victory.
Have a great week.
